Appraisal of the Contribution of Micro Finance Banks to Poverty Eradication in Kano Metropolis
Abstract

The study is an appraisal of the contributions of micro- finance banks to poverty eradication in Kano metropolis. The study aimed at identifying the contributions of micro finance banks on poverty eradication; determining the strategies adopted by microfinance banks in poverty eradication and lastly, to identify the major factors affecting people’s involvement and participation in microfinance activities in Kano metropolis. A cluster sample techniques was used to select 150respondents, 130 were beneficiaries of the schemes and 20 were officials of the banks. The instruments for data collection were two sets of questionnaires, titled “Questionnaire for Bank Customers and Questionnaire for Bank Staff. The findings of the study revealed that the micro-finance bank helped in generation of employment opportunities and bringing equal distribution of wealth and resources in Kano Metropolis. It is therefore, recommended among other things that: the bank should be more visible in loan scheme and advocacy to the generality of people in Kano metropolis.
