The study examined the effect of community education for mitigating the spread of covid-19 virus in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Given the highly contagious nature of COVID-19, prevention strategies are paramount. Community education can empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent transmission, such as proper hand hygiene, wearing masks, and physical distancing. Two research questions guided the study while three hypotheses were tested at .05 significance level. The study was based on theoretical foundation of Health Belief Model (HBM. The study employed descriptive survey design because it allowed the researcher to collect data about the characteristics, attitudes, behaviours, and opinions of the respondents. 720 students of tertiary institutions in southwestern Nigeria served as the sample size. A structured face and content validated instrument tagged “Community Education and Covid-19 Questionnaire”with r = 0.79 was used for data collection. The finding revealed how tertiary institution students in southwestern Nigeria perceive the adoption of online teaching and learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also showed the role community education play in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in southwestern tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The study therefore, recommended, among others, that educators should leverage technology to create engaging and interactive learning environments that cater to diverse learning styles and preferences. It also advocates that policy makers and education stakeholders need to adequately invest in educational interventions to promote awareness and adherence to preventive measures of Covid-19 pandemic among students.
