There has been a downward trend of citizens’ participation in the electoral process generally in Nigeria and elections in particular. This informed the need to improve citizens’ participation in democratic elections in Nigeria through voter education as a core component of the electoral process. This paper identified causes of citizens’ low participation in democratic elections in Nigeria, and a justification was made for the sustainability of voter education as a permanent
feature in the Nigerian Electoral process. In this paper, strategies for the promotion of voter education in Nigeria were discussed, with a recommendation that voter education should be given priority by relevant agencies as panacea for citizens’ low participation in the electoral process.
