Understanding the Possible Adverse Effects of Information and Communication Technologies on Child Education in Nigeria
Abstract

This paper examined the possible adverse effects of information and Communication technologies on child education in Nigeria judging from the fact that the education of children in Nigeria has witnessed tremendous changes due to technology innovations. The paper vividly discussed the benefits of technological deployment in enhancing child education in Nigeria particularly in helping to capture children’s attention to listen, to acquire knowledge, and to
apply the needed information on learning tasks towards the achievement of classroom goals. It, however, argued that despite the perceived benefits of technology in promoting child education in the classroom, there are inherent adverse effects and challenges, as easy access of technological gadgets by children can affect their level of concentration in and outside the classroom, thereby affecting their ability to achieve learning outcomes. The paper, therefore, cautioned that technology deployment in the classroom must be expertly done
not to distract the concentration level of children in the teaching/learning processes and made recommendations to teachers on how to achieve this task.
